The Post had a picture of a wedding today, which I can't find online. It was illustrating a Lisa Bonos story on a convergence of BLM and the wedding in Philadelphia. All very joyous and feel-good, except when you look closely at the one photo of the wedding celebrants.
If I counted correctly there were 18 women and 7 men in the party. I can make assumptions about the cause of the apparent gender imbalance, but whatever the reasons IMHO it casts a shadow on the event.
Blogging on bureaucracy, organizations, USDA, agriculture programs, American history, the food movement, and other interests. Often contrarian, usually optimistic, sometimes didactic, occasionally funny, rarely wrong, always a nitpicker.

Grazing Allotments and Base Properties
Nathanael Johnson continues to impress me.
His piece on the Oregon Malheur sit-in/occupation offers a new piece of info: grazing allotments are connected to "base properties" and their value is capitalized into the market price of the property (much as tobacco allotments were capitalized into the value of the land to which they were attached).
[Update--apparently the local FSA office in the area was closed as a precautionary measure--not clear whether it's still closed.]
